Chelsea tighten third position after win at Leicester as Enzo Fernandez stars

The spotlight in Saturday’s launch time game turned on Enzo Fernandez who starred after scoring and assisting for the first time in Chelsea shirt in the West London’s 2-1 victory over Enzo Maresca’s return to the King Power Stadium.

There is a strong believe that Enzo Maresca has lost many friends at Leicester City since departing the club at beginning of the season but the Italian is happily making new ones at Chelsea.

Maresca has grown over his Chelsea job and continue to push the club to exhibit improved version of football from previous games.

The effect was once again clear in their Saturday trip to Leicester dominating the newly promoted side throughout the game with some great transitional plays from Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez who got Chelsea’s second goal of the day, and assisted in addition.

The Argentine wrapped up Chelsea’s 2-0 lead with a left footer shot, in a rebound, from a Nicholas Jackson’s initial header but the hosts pulled one back through Ghanaian International Jordan Ayew’s stoppage time penalty.

Ayew’s strike was the second time in the game an African was making a milestone impact on Premier League return to action from the International break. Senegalese forward Nicholas Jackson was the first to find his name on the scoresheet, the goal that broke the deadlock and primarily set Maresca’s side on return to winning ways from previous two consecutive draws.

Jackson won a fight from Leicester defense but somehow the ball found Enzo Fernandez who fed the Senegalese through and shot with his outside foot to the far posts. Jackson’s goal brought about the perfect response to Maresca’s blueprint and lingering perfectionist approach that had wanted to feed Jackson with final passes.

Chelsea’s style of play resulted in rare Leicester City attacking moments. Chelsea consistently got better chances to extend the lead but Noni Madueke in particular whom most of the opportunities fell to was not clinical to assist or score.

Marc Cucurella made sure that time, on the 75′ minute, Chelsea doubled their lead after the Spaniard’s well calculated cross from the edge nicely met Jackson’s header saved by Leicester keeper Mads Hermansen but Enzo Fernandez reacted the quickest to send the ball into the net.

One of Leicester’s influential figures in their last season’s Championship triumph Mavididi completed a hallmark move with his pass finding De Cordova-Reid inside the box but the English forward was fouled by later-introduced Romio Lavia. But there was a few VAR flashes that finally pointed to the penalty spot.

Jordan Ayew stepped forward to strike past Robert Sanchez. Chelsea have tightened their third position on the table with 22 points after the win.
