Lamine Yamal is set to sign a new contract at Barcelona, according to the youngster’s agent.
The Spaniard has impressed since breaking into Barcelona first team as a teenager and the club is eager to maintain him for considerably longer period of time.
There are no reports of clubs’ interests in Yamal but the 17-year old is expected to sign new contract with the Catalan club by the time he turns 18 years in July.
Currently, Yamal’s Barcelona deal as a minor will expire in 2026 but his agent Jorge Mendes, who did specified time the new contract will happen, says the club’s academy product ‘will renew soon’.
In statements reported in Dubai, prior to the Globe Soccer Awards where Lamine Yamal is nominated for best player, forward, and emerging player, the Portuguese agent affirmed the Yamal’s plans to sign new contract.
“Surely Lamine Yamal will renew soon, he must continue in Barcelona,” super agent Mendes told Mundo Deportivo.
“I can’t tell you if it will be renewed in a month or two, but it will definitely happen.”
Yamal has scored 5 goals and provided 9 assists in 16 LaLiga matches for Barcelona this season
Yamal, who is recovering from injury, has told Barça One that year 2024 has given him a lot of experience that will be helpful to him in the future.
Looking back at 2024 and saying “I have got better and better, and this year has given me a lot of useful experience for the future … I am still missing team honours at Barça but what most excites me is the chance to start winning them in 2025.”
The Spanish international has also appreciated the team spirit attributing it to the La Masia connection.
“There is an infectious energy among the squad and we are always happy. A lot of the players at Barça have been here since we were small, and were at La Masia. So we know what this crest means and we give everything we have for this shirt.”
Yamal has also talked about boss Hansi flick whose importance to the players is enormous.
“Flick gives us the best advice. He conveys a lot of confidence and knows what to say at every moment. That’s very important.”
