Plymouth complete signing of Ghana midfielder Michael Baidoo in club record deal

Championship bottom side Plymouth have completed the signing of Ghana international Michael Baidoo to Home Park in a record-breaking transfer deal.

The versatile midfielder, who is also adept as a striker, has signed a long-term contract with the English Championship club until the summer of 2028.

His arrival signals a major statement of ambition from Argyle, as they outbid several European clubs to secure his signature.

Baidoo joins from Swedish side IF Elfsborg, where he enjoyed a remarkable spell.

His contributions in the Allsvenskan and Europa League were pivotal, scoring 10 league goals and assisting four times this season, alongside five goals and three assists in Europe.

Notably, his decisive strike against AS Roma in October showcased his knack for performing on the biggest stages.

At just 25, Baidoo brings a wealth of experience from Scandinavia, having also played in Norway and Denmark.

His dynamic style and versatility will undoubtedly enhance Argyle’s attacking options as they aim for greater success in the EFL Championship.

Head of Recruitment Jimmy Dickinson expressed his excitement, highlighting Baidoo’s pedigree and commitment to the project at Argyle.

Wearing the number 30 shirt, Baidoo is poised to make his debut, pending clearance, against Brentford on January 11.

The Green Army eagerly awaits his impact on English football.

The Ghanaian is coming to Plymouth at a time that one of the influential figures in English football Wayne Rooney has just left the club after the Manchester United legend was sack in New Year’s Eve as the club’s manager.

Rooney’s sack, mainly because of poor results from nine-game winless streak, has prompted further unhealthy developments in Plymouth.

The Manchester Evening News (MEN) is claiming that club’s director of football Neil Dewsnip is set to depart from his position following the dismissal of Wayne Rooney.
