Ghanaian international Kamaldeen Sulemana made an injury return in Southampton’s home defeat to Leicester City in the English Premier League.
Sulemana was making his first appearance of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign after recovering from an injury that kept him out of action for months.
The former Nordjaelland and Stade Rennes star was introduced in the 78th-minute, replacing Tyler Dibling after the Saints had been reduced to ten-man.
Unfortunately, his outfit threw away their two-goal lead as they succumbed to a 3-2 defeat at the St. Mary’s Stadium.
Cameron Archer and Joe Aribo gave the Saints a two-goal lead before the halftime break in the crucial encounter.
The host were on track to secure their first win of the campaign but the introduction of Ghanaian duo Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Jordan Ayew made the difference as the Foxes staged a strong comeback in the second half to beat Southampton, amassing maximum points in the game.
Argentina international Facundo Buonanotte pulled one back in the 64th-minute after an assist from Ghanaian winger, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku.
In the 74th-minute, experienced forward Jamie Vardy converted from the spot to level the pegging for the visitors.
However, Ghana forward Jordan Ayew emerged as the hero after netting an injury-time goal snatch victory for the Foxes following his introduction.
Sulemana’s return comes as a huge boost for Southampton, who are yet to find their rhythm after eight matches into the season. The Saints are bottom on the league standings and must play above themselves if they are to maintain their Premier League status at the end of the season.
The Ghanaian pacey winger registered just three assists in the Championship last season across 948, as the Saints made a quick return to the Premier League.
