Former Scotland full-back Stuart Hogg’s wife breaks silence amid abuse case

Former Scotland full-back has pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic abuse said to have occurred over a five-year period.

Gillian Hogg has expressed her gratitude to friends and family after her husband Stuart Hogg, the former Scotland full-back, was charged with abusing her.

Stuart Hogg, now at Montpellier having come out of retirement and signed for the French club earlier this year, pleaded guilty to a single charge of domestic abuse when he appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Monday.

This was said to have occurred over a five-year period between 2019 and 2024, during which Stuart Hogg was heard to have shouted and sworn at his wife in an “aggressive manner” as well as tracking her movements and sending her messages that were “alarming and distressing in nature”.

Gillian, who has four children with Stuart Hogg, took to Facebook to explain that she had been “swamped” with well wishes.

“Iv [sic] thought long and hard about a Facebook post, what to say, what not to,” she posted. “But there’s nothing more important that needs to come from this than a thank you.

“Thank you to every single person who has reached out to me in ways of love, kindness and support. Who have text, messaged, called, visited, sent flowers. Who have gave me a hi, a smile, a hug or even just a look to show they care.

“My friends and family have picked me up and carried me through this all and il [sic] be grateful forever for them all. I have been completely overwhelmed this week especially. The abundance of support and love has swamped me in the most positive way. Thank you.

“Now, it’s time to start my next chapter. To move on and to keep showing my kids every day that strength comes from unconditional love and support around you, and even when it hurts, love wins.”

Stuart Hogg’s sentencing has been deferred until December 5 at Jedburgh Sheriff Court and he remains subject to previously arranged bail conditions.
