Lawyers of Ghana Premier League referee Maxwell Hanson have written to Young Apostles president Samuel Anim Addo, requesting the administrator of the Ghana Premier club to retract and apologize for alleged caused defamation.
The former Ghana Football Association Executive Council member recently posted on his X, formerly Twitter account, claiming that Hanson is being used by the GFA to manipulate matches.
This allegation followed a controversial match between Accra Lions and Dreams FC, which was officiated by Hanson. Addo supported Accra Lions’ claims of biased officiating, further alleging that Hanson had previously cheated Young Apostles in a match and, upon complaint, threatened Young Apostles, who currently sit 13th position on the Ghana Premier League table, with relegation.
Hanson’s lawyers have not launched a legal action against Anim Addo but have offered a first line, in what may come as a, remedy to the Ghana Premier League president.
Hanson’s legal team has issued a 7-point statement ordering Anim Addo to preserve any information relating to the readership of the publication, as well as the impressions associated with any social media posts referring to it (“Social Media Posts”), and provide us with that information.
The statement also asked the president to delete the publication from his X account and ensure that any related social media posts are removed.
The former exco member is not to re-publish the publication or allegations, whether directly or indirectly.
The lawyers have also asked Anim Addo to publish, with equivalent prominence to the original publication, a suitable retraction and apology in terms to be agreed.
The lawyers have ordered Anim Addo to archive and pin the apology on his X account so that it remains searchable to users.
Anim Addo is to also compensate Hanson for the damage to their reputation, distress, and any financial loss caused. And to pay Hanson’s legal costs.
