Ghana’s football governing body, Ghana Football Association (GFA), is considering a decision to hire a technical director to assist struggling Black Stars boss Otto Addo, according to Ghana Soccer Net.
The Black Stars’ failure to qualify to 2025 African Cup of Nations in Morocco means manager Otto Addo’s future remains heavy doubt.
Ghana finished bottom of its group of the preceding qualifying campaign, with three draws and three defeats. For the first time in many qualifiers, Ghana failed in win a game in a group, F, that consisted of leaders Angola, second place Sudan and Niger, marking the country’s run in the AFCON qualifiers as one of the poorest over decades.
There is a growing pressure on the GFA to sack Otto Addo who signed a 3-year deal in March 2024 but the sport’s governing body has decided to keep the Borussia Dortmund bound tactician.
As part of the process to make Otto Addo’s future clear, the GFA held a meeting in the week with the head coach and his technical team, and the football authority is understood to continue the process with meeting other stakeholders before a final decision on the 49-year old’s future would be done.
However, reports in Ghana are indicating Otto Addo would likely retain his position as the Black Stars head coach but his backroom staff would be dissolved in the final GFA decision.
It is understood via Ghana Soccer Net that the GFA is planning to hire a technical director to help Otto Addo in his struggling Black Stars duty.
The African 2026 World Cup qualifiers will continue in March and Ghana will face Chad and Madagascar, these games come the nearest assignment for the Black Stars and it is hoped the technical director arrives on time to give a hand in those games.
No names have emerged at the moment, but they are expected in the upcoming days.
Ghana is meanwhile owing Otto Addo months arrears, confirmed GFA communications director Henry Asante Twum.
“It is true that we owe Otto Addo. The last time I checked with the Sports Ministry, there were salaries in arrears which is not new,” he told an Accra radio station Asempa FM.
“We owe Otto Addo four months’ salary arrears. We have had a series of meetings with the Sports Ministry about the outstanding payment and Otto Addo himself is aware of how difficult it is to get the monies from government but we are still working on it,” Asante Twum added.
