Ghana’s footballing problems are long standing but the recent woes of the Black Stars especially in Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers have dug immediate concern and in high volume.
In connection, former Black Stars defender Rashid Sumaila has backed a fact that Ghana will be resolved expressing confidence that the team will overcome its current struggles despite their poor run of form in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
Ghana, four-time AFCON champions, recently suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sudan at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Libya, putting their chances of qualifying for the tournament in serious jeopardy. This defeat leaves the Black Stars on the brink of missing out on AFCON for the first time since 2004.
In an interview with Bryt FM, Sumaila encouraged a forward-looking approach, urging the team and leadership to focus on solutions rather than dwelling on the defeat. “We’ve lost whether we like it or not, so I think it will be prudent for us to put it behind us and find solutions to our problems,” he said.
He added, “We will continue to struggle if we keep apportioning blame instead of finding solutions. The leadership must sit down, assess themselves, fix the problems, and give the team time. I believe things will get better.”
Ghana will face Angola and Niger in their final Group F matches in November, needing victories in both games while hoping that Sudan stumbles against these same opponents to have any chance of securing a place in next year’s AFCON tournament in Morocco.
