Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Lens defender Kevin Danso after Ange Postecoglou’s side beat Wolves to the Austria International.
Danso will remain with the London side until the end of the season while Tottenham having an obligation to make the move permanent in the summer.
Sky Sports has reported that Wolves had been in talks with Danso, in most part of the period, since the opening of the January transfer window. Wolves are understood to have organised medical for the Austria defender on Sunday morning.
But the club later learnt, after their 2-0 Premier League win over Aston Villa, that Danso has diverted to Tottenham- who engaged the center-back in talks later Saturday.
“I think Kevin will be a great fit for us,” said Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou ahead of his side’s Super Sunday match with Brentford. “Obviously we’re a bit short at the back and have been for a while. He’s experienced, a good one-on-one defender and new players give us energy. We’re looking forward to him being part of the group.”
Romanian Radu Dragusin picked up an injury in the Europa League victory over Elfsborg. Also, Argentine Cristian Romero is out injured, while Dutchman Micky van de Ven has only just returned from the treatment table.
These situations have forced Postecoglou’s side to be in the market for new a defender this January. The London club had held advanced talks with former Chelsea and AC Milan central defender Fikayo Tomori, but the England international opted to stay with the Serie A club.
And Danso became a later alternative and announced the signing of the French Ligue 1 central defender.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of Kevin Danso on loan from Ligue 1 side RC Lens, subject to international clearance and work permit, Tottenham said in a lengthy statement on their official website.
“The Austria international defender will join the Club on loan until the end of the season, with an obligation to make the deal permanent in the summer. He will wear the number four shirt.
“Born in Voitsberg, Austria, Kevin moved to England at the age of six and began his early career with Reading and MK Dons before heading to Germany to join FC Augsburg in January, 2014, to continue his development.
