Man City beat Chelsea 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday to boost Premier League top four ambition. Chelsea, the worst of the first ten clubs on the log in the last fives games, wrecked by City arguably to best side in the same interval.
Thanks to Joško Gvardiol, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden completed Man City 3-time scoring after Noni Madueke had put Chelsea ahead following new signing Abdukodir Khusanov error.
Newcastle United’s 3-1 win over bottom side Southampton earlier had thrown Chelsea out of the four position to fifth, and a place Manchester City were contesting the London side for at a short time.
City, who won the first leg at Stamford Bridge 2-0, went down just three minutes following Noni Madueke striker Khusanov made an error but Pep Guardiola side leveled, in stoppage time, before the end of first half with Joško Gvardiol scoring from an empty net.
Before City’s equalizer Phil Foden struck the woodwork and January signing Omar Marmoush made a big impact netting from a rebound but the Egyptian International’s goal was ruled offside.
City went ahead in a game that they were undoubtedly the better side though a howler from the opposing side led to Erling Haaland slotting in for a City’s 2-1 advantage. Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sanchez went into backpedalling situation leaving the ball for Haaland who lofted into the next for his 18 Premier League goal of the season.
Phil Foden sealed the victory running through Chelsea’s men to plant the ball below Sanchez. Chelsea moved to six position with City overtaking Newcastle at the four position.
