Baba Iddrisu ends Almeria season prematurely after left knee partial anterior cruciate ligament tear

Spanish side Almeria have confirmed that Ghana midfielder Baba Iddrisu has ended the season prematurely after being diagnosed with anterior cruciate ligament.

The subject of concern has come on Iddrisu’s left knee that further assessment tests in the Spanish capital city revealed that the midfielder is having partial anterior cruciate ligament tear.

The Spanish club has launched no treatment at the moment but await a month later to put the Ghanaian on surgery.

Baba Iddrisu has been instrumental in the Spanish side’s campaign playing 10 games contributing to the club’s fight to a third place in the Segunda division.  

The 28-year old has been booked for surgery at least a month later but Almeria head of medical services Sebastián Jiménez said the player will first need four to five weeks to recover from the sprain of the inner lateral ligament in a fulfillment of the conditions to successfully perform the operation.

“The Ghanaian international had a grade 2 sprain to the inner lateral ligament of his left knee, but the head of Club’s medical services Sebastián Jiménez opted to subject him to other tests after verifying the instability he had in the joint. ‘The suspicions we had are a reality and after consulting with several team-mates we have agreed that Baba will have to undergo surgery,’ the doctor explained to the Almeria’s official radio.

Earlier this week, Iddrisu travelled to Madrid for Almeria arranged further examination check-ups where his diagnosed partial anterior cruciate ligament tear was confirmed.

The Ghanaian flown to join his side at Leon and watched Almeria’s Spanish Cup second-round tie clash with Cultural Deportiva Leonesa, in which Almeria won 2-1 on Wednesday.

On Thursday, he joined the club’s travelling squad back home as Almeria prepare to face Malaga in the league on Sunday.

Four to five weeks for recovery which already cuts considerable period out of the season plus the uncertain return date after the surgery finally call to an end Iddrisu’s season.

Iddrisu played 50 minutes in Almeria’s 4-0 thrashing of Cordoba.
